Fiesta season started in San Antonio. There are parties and celebrations throughout the city for a month. Many, if not most of them include alcohol consumption and promotion which can be daunting for people in sober recovery. The CEO of Blue Heron Recovery is providing an alternative with Los Patios Family Fiesta.
This was a great place for my wife and stepsons to spend Saturday afternoon, listening to live music, food trucks, retail booths, bounce houses, and puppy dogs; enjoying the spring weather, and connecting with other people in recovery.
And wouldn’t you know it, towards the end of our stay at the Fiesta I found several warriors in recovery from Warriors Heart Lodge moving out in a buddy team. Wherever, and whenever I go anywhere, I never have to walk alone in Warrior Recovery.
My wife and I also met the head of business development for a small men’s rehab in Austin and he invited us to a Sober Comedy Jam the following Friday. The boys had a blast going out on their own for an hour, and came back with a puppy dog. Unfortunately we are not ready for the responsibility of a puppy dog in our new house, but will continue to unpack the house, get into a positive working schedule for a few months and perhaps then we can get a dog.
